We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and be part of evolving the Yoto core platform that powers the Yoto ecosystem.

Yoto’s Platform Team

We look after the Yoto Platform, a suite of cloud services at the heart of the Yoto ecosystem that span a wide domain - ranging from device provisioning (thousands of players in the factory) to listening to content (serving terabytes of data to children using the Yoto Player). We’re a small group (less than 12 people) split into 3 sub teams. We focus on consistency, simplicity, and document-first working as our guiding day-to-day principles.


What you’ll be doing:

• Working in a serverless environment to build scalable and extensible solutions - using the Serverless Framework, AWS - Lambda, Gateway, DynamoDb, S3,IoT, and Mongo Atlas

• Coding across the full stack - Node.JS + TypeScript (predominantly) and React - in an automated test-first environment (writing high quality, clean, concise, understandable tests is very important to us)

• Working collaboratively and cross functionally with other roles (notably Product and Design) to design, implement and deliver solutions

• Managing the tech you are co-responsible for - addressing cost, inconsistency, and re-design + debt (domain, technical, operational)

What you’ll bring:

• Knowledge and experience building manageable, scalable and cost efficient solutions using the AWS suite of products. We like managed technology.

• The ability to write clean, concise and well organised code through test-driven development.

• You don’t need to be a JavaScript/Typescript expert (many of us move between languages) but exposure is important

• Experience working in an asynchronous, remote-first environment. Knowing the behaviours to utilise (and equally ones to avoid).

• Being comfortable working with high levels of responsibility and initiative. We always support one another, but equally, rely on each other to move problems forward and deliver.

Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 based on experience. We never want to miss out on speaking to great candidates, so please don't let our banding put you off getting in touch. You never know what might be in our future plan and how well you might fit!

• Flexibility: Hybrid working with a choice based approach - we would love you to come into the office as much as possible, with a minimum of once or twice a month. Take advantage of our ‘work from anywhere’ policy to work from a different location for up to 6 weeks every year. Summer Hours policy to use between the months of June and August.
